Newish spot on Parramatta Road that's doing something different. Worth the trek if you're not already in the neighbourhood.

Petersham's always been the quieter sibling in the Inner West food family. But lately, there's been some movement. And this place — I'm not going to name it directly, you'll know it when you see it — is the reason to cross Parramatta Road.

The Vibe

Converted something-or-other — you can never tell what these places used to be. Maybe a shop? A house? Doesn't matter. What matters is that they've kept the bones and added warmth.

Maybe 30 seats, all told. Intimate without being cramped. The kind of place where the owner comes over to ask how things are, and you believe they actually want to know.

The Food

Modern Australian with Mediterranean influences — I know, I know, every second place says that. But here it actually works. The menu changes seasonally, which is annoying if you fall in love with something, but good because everything's fresh.

Order: Whatever they're doing with the local produce. If there's a special, get it. The house-made pasta, if it's on. The dessert, always.

Skip: Nothing, honestly. Even the simpler dishes are executed well.

The Price Point

$28-38 mains. Not cheap, not outrageous. For the quality, it's fair. The wine list is reasonable — $12-16 by the glass, and they're not marking up the bottles like crazy.

Why It Works

It's not trying too hard. There's no gimmick, no "concept," no Instagram wall. Just good food in a space that feels like someone cares.

The staff are actually happy to be there. The kitchen sends out dishes when they're ready, not when the ticket printer says. It's... relaxed. In an industry that's anything but.

When to Go

Weeknights, early. You'll get a table without booking. Weekends, book ahead — word's getting out.
